BAFTA has announced eligibility criteria, voting rules and precious dates for the 2024 Game Prizes, and applications open today. Some important changes have also been made in the format of the 20th British Academy Game Awards, which will be held in the spring of 2024.
BAFTA has prepared these changes to accommodate more games than before and to ensure fairness for all participants.
BAFTA members and expert chapter committees will vote across the three medicine categories from November 2023 to March 2024. The full list of games to be evaluated for the first time will be announced on December 14, following the first round of voting. Previously, only qualified and shortlisted games were announced.
“We hope this transparency helps promote a wider range of games ahead of the panel and second round of voting phases,” said Tara Saunders of the BAFTA Gaming Committee, who is also co-leader of PlayStation London studio.
While the nominees and winners of the Best Game and Best British Game awards were previously determined by the committees made up of department professionals, this year they will be voted on by all BAFTA Games members over 1000.
“It’s important to us that all BAFTA game members, not just those on the committees, are interested in the awards until the final winners are announced. We rely on our members’ expertise in voting for the awards at all stages and processes.” said Saunders.
Games released in the middle of December 10, 2022 – November 24, 2023 will be able to apply for prizes.
