Mortal Kombat, one of the most essential series in the game world, turned 30 this year. The series continues its adventure at full speed with the gas it has gained in recent years. Mortal Kombat 1, which is expected to be released within the year, intends to reboot the series and take us on a much different adventure.

I don’t know about you, but I love the snazzy, knotty, reboot and time travel sauce structure of the Mortal Kombat series. Before starting the series from scratch with the MK1, we wanted to share with you how we got to where we are. That’s why we’re taking you on a journey through the truth to our story that began 30 years ago with the first Mortal Kombat.

24 different Mortal Kombat games, including side games, have been developed over 30 years. There are different characters and stories in these games. But in this article, we will go over the main story and include the characters playing a role in the story.

For now, I don’t want to confuse any more by talking about side stories like Shaolin Monks, Anthology: Sub-Zero, and so on. If there is interest, of course, we will mention them 😊

Let me remind you that this article will be divided into two. In the first part, we will talk about the “antique” part that goes back to 2011 production Mortal Kombat 9. In the second module, we will evaluate the new story and the journey to Mortal Kombat 1.

Let’s start with our spoiler warning.

Sunrise

There are some technical details we need to know before we get started with our type in the Mortal Kombat realm. The most precious of these details are the “immortal” beings in this world. There are 3 different types of immortal beings in MK: Elder Gods, Titans and One Being.

In the midst of this trio, friction is brewing before the tournament now called Mortal Kombat begins. Knowing these frictions is valuable because, as hard as it may seem, these frictions play a valuable role even in the MK1, which will be released 30 years from now.

In fact, the cause of the turmoil is One Being. One Being, who wants to be the most powerful being in the cosmos and acts like the naughty neighbor boy, is trying to steal the powers of the Elder Gods, which we will define as the “Ancient Gods” in the rest of the article.

Starting to lose their power in this friction, the Ancient Lords shake hands with the Titans, creating 6 stones known as “Kamidogu” to imprison the One Being.

These 6 stones get their power from 6 different worlds of Mortal Kombat: Earthrealm, Netherrealm, Chaosrealm, Orderrealm, Outworld and Edenia.

Although One Being is under control thanks to Kamidogu, the creators of the stones fall into each other after the success. The Ancient Gods and Titans cannot agree on how to rule these six realms.

At this point, the Ancient Deities decide to create this mystical tournament called Mortal Kombat.

Villains of the Series

Mortal Kombat’s rule is pretty easy. If a realm wants to invade another realm, it has to win this mystical tournament 10 times in a row. All realms are trying to get to the top by bringing their strongest warriors to this tournament, which takes place every 50 years.

Here, too, we connect to the story of the new games.

As I said above, the only sure rule of the tournament is the 10-wins rule. Shinnok, an Ancient God who wants Earthrealm, the world for himself, joins Mortal Kombat to fulfill this wish.

Perhaps the first name most of us would say when it comes to Mortal Kombat, Raiden manages to defeat Shinnok and imprison himself in the Netherrealm. This point is very valuable because with this war, we are not only winning bad guys for the series, but also the White Lotus community, from which names such as Liu Kang and Kung Lao are formed.

Let’s come to the main villain… Shao Kahn’s story actually started at an unexpected point. Shao Kahn, one of Onaga’s most trusted subordinates, the ruler of Outworld, betrays his superior and poisons Onaga. Shao Kahn, the new ruler of Outworld, begins to invade other realms one by one.

First War

Of course, Earthrealm is one of the realms that Shao Kahn soon set his sights on. Shao Kahn, who made the necessary preparations for the invasion, is not successful in overthrowing the Great Kung Lao, who has a valuable place in the history of the MK. This Kung Lao should not be confused with the Kung Lao we control in the games.

We can compare the phenomenon of Ronaldo to Great Kung Lao, and Cristiano Ronaldo to Kung Lao.

Although Great Kung Lao defeated Shang Tsung in battle, his championship did not last long. The death of the strongest warrior in the world is at the hands of the four-armed half-dragon Goro.

Goro wins 9 tournaments in a row to fulfill Shao Kahn’s wish. For the 10th Tournament, which is probably the most valuable tournament in the cosmos, all warriors meet on Shang Tsung’s island.

I know it took us a long time to get here. But we finally got to the point where Mortal Kombat 1 started. In other words, the tournament that will determine the fate of the world…

Raiden, the protector of the world, chooses three special warriors for this tournament. The first of these warriors is Liu Kang, the natural son of the White Lotus. Another is Johnny Cage, who is nearing the end of his acting career, and another is Special Branch Commander Sonya Blade, who is after Kano.

In addition to these three names, the tournament also includes Lin Kuei assassin Sub-Zero, who fought for Outworld, the mysterious “yellow ninja” Scorpion and Kano, who want to take revenge on Sub-Zero.

At the end of the first game, Liu Kang saves the world by defeating Goro and Shang Tsung. At the same time, Scorpion takes his revenge on Sub-Zero, who he thinks killed his family.

until 2

Not happy with the lost battle, Shao Kahn calls on Shang Tsung to be executed. On the other hand, as we will encounter frequently in the rest of the story, Shang Tsung uses his forked language to get himself out of this deadlock.

According to Shang Tsung, the warriors of the world have no luck in a tournament to be held in Outworld. Shao Kahn, who deserves this, abducts some world warriors to Outworld and ensures that the war is held away.

Although the number of characters is increasing in the second game, there are also returning names. In addition to our world warriors, Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung’s personal defense Reptile and Sub-Zero, whom we are sure to have died in the first game, are also in the middle of the tournament.

But this Sub-Zero is not the Sub-Zero we know. Kuai Liang, who is Lin Kuei’s new chief and brother of brand new Sub-Zero Bi-Han. Let’s take note of this, because the assets of these two will be of great value in the upcoming games.

In the second game, we also meet Kitana, the princess of Edenia, one of the realms invaded by Shao Kahn.

At the end of Mortal Kombat 2, nothing changes and Liu Kang saves the world by defeating Shao Kahn in the tournament.

Deadly Partnership

When the stories of Mortal Kombat 3 and 4 are over, both Shao Kahn and Shinnok, an ancient Ancient God, are defeated once again. But the course of MK history is changing with Deadly Alliance.

The sorcerer named Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung, who murdered Scorpion’s family and clan by disguising as Sub-Zero, decide to shake hands for this game. Quan-Chi, who tried to escape from Scorpion in the previous game, escapes from the Netherrealm using Shinnok’s talisman.

The place he escaped to is quite interesting… Quan-Chi finds himself in the mausoleum of Onaga, where Shao Kahn poisoned himself to the throne.

Quan-Chi offers Shang Tsung a reconciliation at this point: Onaga’s army in exchange for unlimited souls…

And when the two shake hands, the deadly fellowship puts its plan in motion.

First, we see the world’s most precious warriors being hunted one by one. The two first visit Shao Kahn and eliminate himself. And then we lose Liu Kang, the savior of the world.

Although Raiden steps in to save the world, both he and the other warriors of the world cannot prevail against this duo. Jax Briggs, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade and Kitana also lose their lives in the battle.

The duo, who managed to defeat Raiden at the beginning of the Well of Souls, fall for each other as expected. While Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung are fighting, something unbelievable happens.

Onaga’s Return and Fall

Once the sole ruler of Outworld, Onaga rises with his army. Shang Tsung and Quan-Chi, who have fallen at each other, see Onaga’s arrival and direct their raids towards him. When Raiden, who also stands up, joins the war, a scene that will not be forgotten for centuries emerges.

But the efforts of these three powerful characters are insufficient because Onaga is a mystical and very ancient creature. Raiden’s last effort blows up the entire temple, but it doesn’t hurt Onaga’s hair.

At this point in the story, we move on to Mortal Kombat: Deception. Although we meet Shujinko in Deception and defeat Onaga, the real problems begin after that.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon has gone down in history as the first game that changed the course of the series. All the battles and efforts you’ve read so far are a precious cut for this knot.

Blaze, one of the most powerful beings in MK history, awakens from his centuries-long sleep under the influence of this war of realms.

Blaze is quite a different character. We can actually see him behind the famous bridge arena in MK 2. Added to the game as a playable character in some games, Blaze is actually one of the strongest characters in MK history.

What makes this burning friend valuable is its power to bring doom. Whenever Blaze and his ancient monument appear, all the warriors in the realms are fighting to be able to fight him. Because the person who defeats Blaze can regain his power in the middle of these realms.

Armageddon actually has a story involving the brave warriors of Edenia, Tavon and Deagon. However, the course of the story is not the same as in the game.

First we see the warriors trying to climb to the top of the mausoleum one by one. While everyone is killing each other without saying friend or foe, Raiden and Shao Kahn are left alone on the hill. Shao Kahn, who managed to defeat Raiden, also achieves the power of Blaze, fulfilling his dream of becoming the sole ruler of the realms.

At this time, Raiden, who is about to give up his life at the top of the ancient tomb, uses his talisman to send the message “Must Win” to the past.

At this point, the series gives a 5-year middle. When we return in 2011, we will take a closer look at the new page of Mortal Kombat history and its two reboots.
